8-year-old in ICU after being raped, two juveniles apprehended

The Delhi Commission for Women had sent a notice to the police seeking immediate action against the accused in the case.

Police have arrested two juveniles, aged 11 and 12, in connection with the rape of an eight-year-old girl, who sustained serious injuries and is currently in ICU.

The Delhi Commission for Women had sent a notice to the police seeking immediate action against the accused in the case.

Officials said the girl lives with her family in Northeast Delhi. On Monday evening, she went out home to play with her friends, but a 12-year-old boy from her locality allegedly called her to his home on the pretext of playing. Police said he and his friend allegedly raped her there.

According to police, after the girl returned to her home, she complained of severe stomach pain, and her parents found that she was injured and bleeding. She was rushed to a hospital, where she is undergoing treatment, police said.

Police said they received a complaint from the girl’s mother and a medical examination was conducted. A case under sections of kidnapping, rape and POCSO Act has been registered.

Sanjay Sain, DCP (Northeast), said two boys, aged around 11 and 12, have been identified and apprehended. “The boys live near her place and were identified with the help of local enquiry and CCTVs near the house. We are questioning them. The girl is still at the hospital,” said the DCP.

“She has multiple injuries on her private parts and is bleeding profusely. This is a case of gang rape. Her parents called us on our helpline,” said the DCW in a statement.

The Commission asked the Delhi Police to register a case within two days and submit details of the FIR, apart from making arrests.

DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said, “The girl is in unimaginable pain as she is battling for her life in an ICU. Strongest punishment needs to be given…”
