AAP leader Somnath Bharti Challenged AIIMS conviction decision in High Court .

Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Law Minister Somnath Bharti, who was convicted by the trial court in an assault case with the security personnel of AIIMS, has challenged the decision of the trial court in the High Court.

The Rouse Avenue court found Somnath Bharti guilty of assaulting AIIMS security personnel and sentenced him to two years imprisonment and a fine of one lakh rupees.
Somnath Bharti had appealed in the sessions court against the decision of the Rouse Court. But the sessions court also upheld the judgment of the lower court. Now Somnath Bharti has challenged this decision in the High Court.
Now if the High Court also gives verdict against Somnath Bharti, then the difficulties of Somnath Bharti will increase. On retaining the sentence by the High Court, Somnath Bharti will be stripped of his legislature and he will be ineligible to contest elections for 6 years.

In the year 2016 when a security officer of AIIMS filed a case of assault against Somnath Bharti in a Delhi police station. Convicting Somnath Bharti on charges of rioting, illegally mobilizing people and damaging public property, the court sentenced him to 2 years in prison and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. However, Somnath Bharti has been denouncing all the allegations leveled against him.
