Andhra Pradesh CM complains to Centre on Telangana projects

He urged the ministers to direct the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to visit the Rayalaseema Lift scheme only after visiting the unauthorised projects in Telangana.

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday addressed separate letters to Union Ministers Gajendra Shekhawat and Prakash Javdekar, complaining that Telangana was constructing projects illegally.

He urged the ministers to direct the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to visit the Rayalaseema Lift scheme only after visiting the unauthorised projects in Telangana.

In his letter to the Union Hydro-electric Power Minister Gajendra Shekhawat, he said that Telangana state was resorting to generation of power against the rules and was using water in excess of its rightful share. “It is illegally pumping out water from the Srisailam project and since July 1, has utilised 19 tmc of water. Telangana is pumping out water from the 796 ft level,” Jagan alleged, adding that unless the water level was maintained at 854 ft at Srisailam project, there was no chance of providing water for cultivation to the drought-hit Rayalaseema region, Nellore and Prakasam districts.

He also said that the KRMB was repeatedly saying it would inspect the Rayalaseema Lift without bothering about the illegal projects of Telangana, and sought a direction to the KRMB to visit Rayalaseema Lift only after inspecting the projects under construction in Telangana.

In his letter to Union Minister for Environment Prakash Javdekar, the AP Chief Minister sought environmental clearance to the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation project.
