This time the situation is more serious than before, where more than 1 lakh cases are being reported every day. After the end of the three-phase polling, there were reports of a lockdown being implemented in Assam, which has now been rejected by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. According to Himanta, a target has been set to increase the daily testing to 1 lakh in the next 2-3 days. Apart from this, the government has not made any lockdown plan yet.
Himanta said that the second wave of Covid-19 has started across the country. Due to which the standard operating procedure i.e. SOP has been issued in the state as well. At present, all passengers coming from Maharashtra and Karnataka are required to bring the report of the Covid-19 test. On the other hand, travelers who do not bring the report will have to get themselves tested. In the past too, there were 1 lakh tests done daily in Assam. Now there are plans to go back to the same level again. It is expected that this target will be reached in 2-3 days.
He further said that due to Covid-19 last year, we did not celebrate the festival of Bihu, but this time it will definitely be celebrated. Right now the government aims to examine and isolate the Covid patients before the festival. On vaccination, he said that 10 lakh vaccinations have been done in the state so far, work is being done rapidly to make available to the survivors. At the same time, on reducing the age limit of vaccination, he said that it all depends on the vaccine supply.
