Hyderabad: The Dundigal police on Thursday confirmed the arrest of a couple on charges of raping and murdering a 35-year-old woman at Madaram in Jinnaram of Sangareddy district. The victim who went missing from Dundigal was found dead in Sangareddy.
The couple, Kuruva Swamy alias Ravi (30), and M.Narsamma, wer ein a live-in relationship for the last eight years and were residents of IDA Bollaram in Sangareddy. Ravi was involved in four robbery cases in Jinnaram and Shankarpally, Balanagar DCP PV Padmaja said here on Thursday, adding that Ravi targeted women found alone near toddy shops and by luring them with money or work took them to secluded spots and robbed them.
On Sunday, the couple found the victim waiting for work at a labour adda at Mallampet in Dundigal and approached her offering work.
“The couple told her that there was a painting work for a temple in Madaram and she went along with them since she needed money,” the DCP said, adding that the couple took her on a bike to the hillock in Madaram.
As it was lunch time, on the victim’s request the couple allowed her to have food, which she brought along. Narsamma then approached her saying they intended to bear a child together, but it was quite difficult due to her health condition.
“By then, the victim understood where the discussion was going and warned them. Suddenly, Ravi overpowered her and raped her, while Narasmma held her tightly. As she raised an alarm and continued to resist, Ravi grabbed a stick and attacked her on her private parts, resulting in her death,” Padmaja said.
After confirming that she died, the couple took her ornaments and phone and fled the spot. The Sangareddy police later identified the victim and informed the Dundigal police. A spot autopsy was conducted.
The DCP said special teams collected footage from surveillance cameras from near the murder spot and soon found the couple moving suspiciously on the bike near Gagillapur. During interrogation, they confessed to the crime.
