Court issues notice to Javed Akhtar over his remarks comparing RSS with Taliban
The suit was filed by RSS leader Vivek Champanerkar in the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate and joint civil judge
A court located in Maharashtra’s Thane city has issued a show-cause notice to Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar on civil defamation suit filed against him for allegedly comparing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with Taliban. The court asked him to submit his response by 12 November.
The suit was filed by RSS leader Vivek Champanerkar in the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate and joint civil judge (senior division). It seeks Re 1 as compensation from Akhtar.
Speaking to a news channel after the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, he had said, ”The Taliban want an Islamic country. These people want to make a Hindu Rashtra.”
Advocate Aditya Mishra, who appeared for the complainant, claimed the defendant had made “derogatory” remarks against the RSS while appearing in a show of a private news channel. He said his remarks “drawing a parallel between barbaric Taliban and organisations working for the Hindu cause” were aimed at vilifying such outfits.
