Digvijaya Singh holds cop by the collar as Congress workers clash with police in Bhopal

Videos of the clashes show the police trying to stop the Congress workers from entering the panchayat office as they try to push them away.

Congress party workers, including former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh and MLAs Arif Masood and PC Sharma, clashed with the police outside the office of the district panchayat in Bhopal. Videos of the clashes show the police trying to stop the Congress workers from entering the panchayat office as they try to push them away.

One of the police officers was held by his collars and violently pushed away by Digvijaya Singh.

The workers and leaders of the grand old party have alleged that the police and the administration are working under the government’s pressure.

As BJP leader and state minister Bhupendra Singh reached the district panchayat office, the protesting Congress workers did not let his vehicle pass. Digvijaya Singh and Arif Masood stood in front of Singh’s car, blocking the minister’s entry to the panchayat office.

Soon, more police personnel were deployed to control the situation.

The election to choose the president of district panchayats is underway in several districts of Madhya Pradesh, including in Bhopal. The polls are being seen as a question of credibility for both the BJP and the Congress.
