Hyderabad: Bonalu celebrations begin in Old City

The special focus in the celebrations are the Akkanna Madanna temple at Hari Bowli and Simhavahini Mahankali temple at Lal Darwaza.

Hyderabad: The two-day old city Bonalu celebrations began on a festive note on Sunday morning.

Devotees in large numbers lined up at temples for prayers and also making offerings to mother Goddess. The temples allowed the public to visit from early morning after special religious rituals were performed by the temple priests on the occasion of Bonalu.

The special focus in the celebrations are the Akkanna Madanna temple at Hari Bowli and Simhavahini Mahankali temple at Lal Darwaza. Both the temples were decked up for the festive occasion. A long serpentine queue is also witnessed at the Bhagyalaxmi temple at Charminar.

Minister for Cinematography T Srinivas Yadav, along with his family visited the Akkanna Madanna temple and Lal Darwaza temple. More celebrities, public representatives and government officials are expected to visit the Lal Darwaza temple during the day.

The police made elaborate arrangements to ensure convenience and security to the people visiting the temples. Around 8,000 policemen were drafted for the Bonalu security arrangements in the city.
