India made Fastag compulsory at toll plazas.

The Automatic Payment System Fastag (FASTag) has been mandatorily implemented from the 16th February at all toll plazas across the country.

The cash payment at the toll plaza will be completely stopped from today. With this, it is now compulsory for all drivers to fastag the vehicle.
It may be noted that the Central Government had earlier extended the FASTag deadline for vehicles in India from 1 January 2021 to 15 February 2021. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued a notification in November 2020, making FASTag compulsory for all vehicles from January 1, 2021.

From today, the vehicles which will not have fastags or those whose fastags are damaged, will have to pay heavy fines. As a penalty, the drivers may have to pay double the toll charged according to the vehicle category.

Fastag has also been made mandatory for registration of new four wheelers. Apart from this, Fastag is also being supplied by vehicle manufacturers and dealerships. At the same time, from April 1, 2021, valid fastag has been made mandatory to get new third party insurance. The government has taken this step to reduce traffic at the toll plaza.
