Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad’s term in the Rajya Sabha is ending. Ghulam Nabi Azad is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, after the end of Azad’s term, another veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge will be made the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
Mallikarjun Kharge has been named as the Leader of the Opposition by the Congress to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. The tenure of four Rajya Sabha MPs, including Ghulam Nabi Azad, ends on 15th February. In such a situation, Malkilarjun Kharge will replace Ghulam Nabi Azad as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
While giving emotional farewell to Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned some special moments shared with him. Prime Minister Narendra Modi became emotional while sharing his experiences with Ghulam Nabi Azad and could not stop his tears. The PM said that it would be very difficult to fill the place of Ghulam Nabi Azad as he had not only thought about his party but also the country and Rajya Sabha.
Significantly, the Rajya Sabha term of PDP MP Nazir Ahmad Lave ends with Ghulam Nabi Azad on February 15. While the term of BJP MP Shamsher Singh Manhas and Mir Mohammed Fayaz has ended on 10 February.
