Man died after police gives physical punishment for violating Covid Curfew in Philippines .

A person was given such a stringent punishment for breaking the rules under Covid-19 in the South East Asian country of the Philippines that led to his death.

The family members of the deceased have alleged that the police had a sit-down meeting with them on the violation of the Covid curfew, which led to the death.
According to media reports, Derene Menog was caught by Kewaite province officials when he was buying water after 6 PM local time on Thursday. It is alleged that after this, the police officers got him to do 300 squats as a punishment. The next day, his health worsened and he later died.

A strict lockdown has been put in place to prevent the spread of the corona virus in Kewaite province on Luzon Island from 6 PM to 5 AM.

Reacting to the incident, the local head of the police department said that there is no rule of imposing any kind of corporal punishment on the violation of curfew due to Corona virus. It will not be tolerated if the authorities are found guilty of doing so.
