Odisha to implement E-Custody system in jails.

Naveen Patnaik government of Odisha is going to implement E-Custody system in state jails.

This decision has been taken under the ambitious 5T Initiative of the Government of Odisha. After the introduction of this facility, the certificates of the custody period of under trials and convicted prisoners in different jails of the state will be sent online in other courts including the High Court, which will save a lot of time.
Under this scheme, it has been decided to provide a laptop to the Directorate of Prisons. This will be done by presenting prisoners through e-meeting and video conferencing with the courts. DG, Jail Santosh Upadhyay said, “we are going to start setting up jail courts from April. The purpose of setting up jail courts is to speedily settle lawsuits. This will benefit such people, who have been getting dates for a long time.”


Santosh Upadhyay also said that those prisoners who are in jail for petty offenses will be the biggest beneficiaries of the jail courts. Those who can give exemption only by paying fine but are closed due to non-payment of fine.
Upadhyay said that there are many prisoners who could not come out due to not fulfilling the conditions of Bail, such prisoners would also be benefited by it.
