Rescue operation resumed in Tapovan Tunnel

Rescue operation at Tapovan Tunnel in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand has resumed on the sixth day. The rescue operation was stopped on Thursday due to the water coming around the tunnel, but the relief work started again on Friday.

The rescue operation was stopped on Thursday due to the water coming around the tunnel, but the relief work started again on Friday. People are still expected to survive inside the tunnel, due to which SDRF, NDRF, Army, ITBP and local people are engaged in the rescue operation.

There was a huge destruction in the Chamoli district due to the incident of the glacier bursting. In this incident the water level of the Rishiganga river had increased. So far, 36 deaths reported and 200 people are still missing. There is a possibility of 25 to 30 people being trapped in the tunnel.

The Home Ministry held a review meeting regarding the ongoing rescue operation at Tapovan Tunnel. The meeting was chaired by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla. In this meeting, the sudden rise in water level in Rishiganga river was discussed. During this discussion, it was decided to send a team of experts to the scene to analyze the situation.
