Saudi Arabia. Clarification on Medical Insurance

Riyadh . KN Wasif

Medical insurance is mandatory for every expatriate in Saudi Arabia. For the effective implementation of this ban, it has now been integrated with the system of permits for making or renewing Iqama. That is, now medical insurance is required for making or renewing Iqama for foreign workers. But this system is still not clear to people. That’s why people keep posting questions on the Jazaat site.

In this regard, Jujazat has once again issued a clarification. The Saudi Passport and Immigration Department clarified that according to the system, it is mandatory for the renewal of the residences of foreign workers living in the kingdom that the workers and their families have medical insurance from such companies. To be done by those who are connected to the system of justifications.
A medical policy should not be obtained from a non-standard or a company that is not connected to the licensing system as the basic requirement is to renew the Iqama.

The Ministry of Health and Licensing system has been linked to keep the data updated so that people do not face problems with bogus medical insurance.
The purpose of linking the renewal of Iqama with the medical insurance policy is to ensure the provision of timely and quality medical facilities to the Iqama holders. Moreover, it is important to ensure that the insurance company is also linked to the system of authorization. So that immediately after purchasing the policy the insurance company updates the policy in the validation system after which the policy can be renewed.

One more thing needs clarification in this regard. Ever since the companion fee was introduced, expats have been bringing their families on short-term visit visas. Visit visa is issued only after obtaining medical insurance. But the visitor does not get any treatment facility from this insurance.
