Hyderabad: A minor girl was raped and murdered in an area under Saidabad police station limits in Hyderabad in the late hours of Thursday. The incident has sparked an agitation, as locals and youth organizations urged a magistrate level probe.
The six-year-old’s body was found at the residence of the accused later that day, as reported by The News Minute. The accused is said to have befriended the victim by offering her chocolate before going ahead with the assault.
Local media stated that the accused had been arrested. However, Venkat Ramanna, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Malakpet informed Siasat.com that the accused is currently absconding while the station house officer of Saidabad police station also noted that the accused would be arrested soon.
As the news of the incident broke out, protests ensued with locals and youth organizations taking to the city’s Champapet road . The enraged public demanded there be a magistrate level investigation into the incident, as the demonstrated in front of the magistrate office.
“The situation in the locality is normal now. The postmortem is being conducted and further investigation will be carried out based on the report,” ACP was quoted by The News Minute.
Earlier, the agitators urged that the accused be handed over to the mob. A certain amount of tension prevailed in the area before 300 police personnel were deployed to quell the demonstration.
The police stated that the victim’s body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for postmortem and other necessary examinations. A case was registered under sections 376(1) and 302 for rape and murder, the accused was also booked under the POCSO ACT of 2012.
