Special sub-inspector hacked to death while trying to nab goat thieves in Tamil Nadu

The deceased SSI, Boominathan, was attached to Navalpattu police station in the neighbouring Tiruchirappalli district.

A special sub-inspector was allegedly hacked to death while he was trying to nab two goat thieves in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukottai district.

The deceased SSI, Boominathan, was attached to Navalpattu police station in the neighbouring Tiruchirappalli district. He was on night patrol on Saturday when he saw two men trying to steal goats on a two-wheeler.

The gang fled the spot, following which Boominathan had to chase them all the way to Pudukottai district, where the thieves got stranded as they were unable to cross a subway at Pallathupatti, which was inundated due to heavy rains.

When Boominathan tried to nab them, he was attacked and before he could react, the culprits pulled out sickles and hacked him to death.

Since it was a secluded spot, people from the area saw Boominathan’s body covered in blood only on Sunday morning and alerted officials, who then transported Boominathan’s body to Trichy Government Hospital for autopsy.

Four special teams have been formed to arrest the culprits while Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced Rs 1 crore as a solatium along with a government job for a member of the family.
