Supreme Court dismisses Waseem Rizvi’s plea seeking waiver of Rs 50,000 fine
The counsel informed his client has filed a review against the said order and also discharged him from the case.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition as withdrawn, which sought waiver of Rs. 50,000 fine imposed on him for filing a plea seeking removal of 26 verses from the holy Quran.
Today the matter was listed before the bench of Justices Rohinton Fali Nariman, KM Joseph, and BR Gavai. Petitioner’s counsel A Deb Kumar prayed for withdrawal of his application for waving off the cost.
The counsel informed his client has filed a review against the said order and also discharged him from the case.
Rizvi has sparked a controversy by his remarks against certain Quranic verses and early Islamic caliphs. Several Muslim organisations have raised their strong concerns over his remarks.
Raza Academy including other organisations have demanded his arrest for his mischievous remarks.
