Gadwal Vijayalakshmi of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) elected as the Mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Mote Sri Latha Sobhan Reddy was elected as the Deputy Mayor on Thursday.
The post of the mayor was reserved for a woman candidate.Vijayalakshmi is the daughter of TRS Rajya Sabha MP K Keshavarao and a two-time Corporator from the Banjara Hills division, while Latha Sobhan Reddy is the Corporator of Tarnaka division.
The posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of GHMC, which witnessed a high-pitched election campaign between TRS and Bharatiya Janata Party in December 2020. TRS bagged 56 divisions, while BJP bagged 48 seats followed by AIMIM with 44 Seats.
As no party gained majority and no alliance formed,the election for Mayor and Deputy Mayor took place on Thursday,where 149 elected corporators and ex officio members present.
The voting for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor began at 12:30 PM. Before the mayor and deputy mayor election, all the newly elected corporators took oath.
Presiding officer Swetha Mohanthy completed the conducting proceedings which was monitored by election observer Sandeep Kumar.
BJP filed RK Puram corporator Radha Reddy as their Mayor Candidate against TRS Candidate G. Vijayalakshmi where AIMIM voted in the favour of G. Vijayalakhmi and made her the GHMC Mayor. AIMIM also supported
TRS Deputy Mayor Candidate.
In a tweet AIMIM President Asaduddin convey his wishes to newly elected GHMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor,he also thanked TRS for offering his party the post of Deputy Mayor which he has refused to accept.
