UP: Woman gang-raped by husband, his friends in Kanpur after she fails to fulfil dowry demand

The Kanpur woman alleged that her husband even tried to set her ablaze when she resisted the rape by him and his friends in Chakeri area of the city.

Kanpur: In a horrific incident reported from Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, a woman by allegedly gang-raped by her husband and his friends after her family could not dowry demand. The incident took place in Chakeri area of the district.
A case has been registered against victim’s husband and his friends at Chakeri police station on Wednesday. The case was filed by the woman’s family.
The woman got married to the accused on March 2020. The victim alleged that her in-laws used to demand a car and Rs 2 lakh as dowry since she got married to the accused, according to a report in Times of India.
The survivor further alleged that her in-laws and husband used to lock her in a room when their demand was not met.
The woman claimed one day she was gang raped by her husband and his three friends. “When I resisted, he even tried to set me ablaze by pouring petrol on me,” the woman claimed.
“We have registered a case based on a complaint and action is being taken,” the reported quoted Shailendra Singh, SHO, Chakeri police station.
In another incident reported from Bundi district of Rajasthan, a 45-year-old man was booked for allegedly raping his 15-year-old daughter for nearly two years.
The minor victim is a class 8 student. She narrated her ordeal to an Anganwadi worker who then informed police. Later, a case was registered under sections of Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Kapren police station.
