“The accused were working as the RTA broker near the RTA office in Warangal. They used to help the vehicle owners to get their insurance renewed, vehicle registration and registration of the vehicles by offering some ‘charges’. But in order to earn more money, they have started cheating the gullible vehicle owners who come to them to renew their insurances of the vehicles, and started issuing fake insurance certificates in the name of the insurance companies using some Apps and special software. They have even added QR codes to the documents with some Apps. They used to collect Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000 from each vehicle owner,” he said, adding that the fraud had come to light as one of the vehicle owners contacted insurance for a claim as his vehicle was damaged in an accident.
