Sameer Wankhede not investigating officer in Aryan Khan case: DDG NCB Gyaneshwar Singh clarifies

Deputy DG of NCB Gyaneshwar Singh has clarified that Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede is not the investigating officer in the Aryan Khan case.

Deputy Director-General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Gyaneshwar Singh has clarified that Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede — against whom a preliminary inquiry has been initiated by the Mumbai police of extortion allegations — is not the investigating officer in the Mumbai drug bust case in which Aryan Khan is one of the accused.

He said, “Let me clarify that Sameer Wankhede is not the investigating officer. He was supervising the case. There is the DDG above him and the DG is above the DDG. So in that chain, he is supervising. VV Singh is the investigating officer. After we submit our report, on the basis of that, DG will decide the next course of action.”

On allegations levelled by witness Prabhakar Sail against Wankhede and another witness, Kiran Gosavi, Singh said, “We are looking into all allegations made in the affidavit filed by Sail. We have called him but he hasn’t come yet. We have got to know that even Gosavi has been arrested. We want to take his statement as well.”

On NCB’s affidavit saying that Shah Rukh Khan’s team, including his manager, Pooja Dadlani, were influencing witnesses, he said, “Many names have come forward, many witnesses are there and when things come forward we will investigate.”

On Wednesday, Wankhede was questioned for hours by the vigilance team of NCB. According to sources, there were many questions which he did not answer. When asked about allegations on nikah nama which surfaced today, Sameer Wankhede said it was false and left.

NCP leader and Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik has been attacking Sameer Wankhede, who is probing the Mumbai cruise drugs bust case that has seen Aryan Khan and others in jail for about three weeks. Wankhede and his family have called Malik’s allegations a lie and a joke.

Nawab Malik has said Aryan Khan, son of superstar Shah Rukh Khan, has been framed and asserted that NCB’s Sameer Wankhede will lose his job. Wankhede is facing NCB’s own vigilance inquiry.
