Heavy rains: IMD issues red alert for Telangana

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind speed 30-40 kmph, also has been predicted to occur at isolated places in the State

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Telangana State on Thursday, predicting more widespread and heavy rains till Saturday. Scattered heavy to very heavy with isolated extremely heavy rain is likely to occur over the State for next 48 hours. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind speed 30-40 kmph, also has been predicted to occur at isolated places in the State.

Besides the Southwest monsoon being vigorous over the State, a low pressure area has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood under the influence of an existing cyclonic circulation over the same region. The low pressure area is likely to move West-Northwestwards along the monsoon trough during next two-three days. As a result, the erstwhile districts of Nizamabad and Adilabad as well as parts of erstwhile Karimnagar were put on red alert.

Extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated at isolated places in the districts of Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Jagitial, Nizamabad Rajanna Siricilla, and Kamareddy, while heavy rains are likely to occur in the districts of Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Siddipet, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Suryapet, Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem over next two days.
