Hyderabad: Proving that doctors go beyond their call of duty is the city-based doctor, Dr Sangeeth Kumar. While a lot of us might hesitate to pick up a bag lying on the road and most might not even bother to return it to the right owner, civil surgeon, Dr Kumar proved his honesty.

While driving behind a motorist, Dharmender Sirvi, at Karthikeya Nagar Community Hall road, the doctor noticed that a bag had fallen from the former’s bike on the road. He immediately picked it up and chased Sirvi to some distance but could not get hold of him. He then approached the Nacharam Police and handed over the bag.

The bag contained jewelry worth Rs 8.2 lakh that Sirvi, a city-based jeweler was carrying to get it repaired at Pot Market in Secunderabad. At around 2 pm, the motorist from Karthikeya Nagar in Nacharam had hung the bag to his scooter and was proceeding towards Secunderabad. When he reached Karthikeya Nagar Community Hall, the bag fell on the road and he missed to notice it and drove away.

Dr Kumar who is a civil surgeon from the Malkajgiri Area Hospital was driving just behind Sirvi on the route and saw the bag fall on the road. “He immediately picked up the bag and started following Sirvi’s scooter to some distance, but could not chase him. He then, approached us and handed over the bag containing the gold jewelry,” said T Kiran Kumar, Inspector, Nacharam.

“We found the address and contact details of the bag owner, using which we called and handed it over to him,” the inspector said.
