Hyderabad: Swaeroes hero RS Praveen Kumar resigns IPS job

After 26 years of serving the motherland as an IPS officer, I have applied today for voluntary retirement to pursue my passion for social justice and equality with more vigour at my own pace.

Hyderabad: Senior IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar, who led the trailblazing tribal and social welfare residential institution movement in Telangana, has resigned from government service.

“After 26 years of serving the motherland as an IPS officer, I have applied today for voluntary retirement to pursue my passion for social justice and equality with more vigour at my own pace. I thank you all for standing by me throughout my career,” Praveen Kumar tweeted, along with a lengthy letter titled ‘Infinite Thanks’ on Monday.

“With a heavy heart (and joy at the same time), I am sharing with you my decision to voluntarily retire from government service. I have mailed my request to the Chief Secretary of Government of Telangana today. It was not easy to arrive at this life-changing decision, given my humble beginnings and the ardous journey to become an IPS officer. However, the pure pleasure of following my passion hereafter has helped me overcome this uncertainty,” he wrote.

Praveen Kumar thanked the police and welfare departments, the staff members of the welfare residential institutions, whom he called ‘the best in the world’ and the students of the welfare institutions (Swaeroes) as well.

Stating that he had tried to perform the duty that was expected by the Constitution of India all through his 26 years of service, Praveen Kumar said he would use the rest of his life to fulfill the unfinished dreams of the ‘doyens of social justice’, the Mahatma Phule couple, Dr. BR Ambedkar and Kanshiram.
