Rachakonda Police nabs gang of three for stealing cars

After hiring the vehicles, he removed the GPS tracking system and fled with them.

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police on Friday nabbed a three-member inter-State automobile thief gang involved in tampering with the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) of cars and stealing them at Chaitanyapuri. They also hired cars and sold them. Police recovered five cars and a bike, together worth Rs 84.9 lakh from them.

The arrested persons were G Mahesh Nuthan Kumar (28), a mobile phone technician from Bhimavaram of Andhra Pradesh, Shaik Munawar alias Munna (35), a poultry worker from Krishna of AP and K Sai Madan (21), a private employee, also from Krishna.

According to the police, Nuthan Kumar, an engineering graduate was involved in cheating, theft and cyber crime cases and was earlier arrested thrice by the Telangana and AP police. He had worked as a mobile phone technician at Bhimavaram before moving into crime.

“He hired cars and bikes from various online automobile rental applications which give out vehicles on rent for self-driving. He stole and used Aadhaar cards, driving licence and other identity proofs of his roommates, to hire the vehicles,” Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said.

After hiring the vehicles, he removed the GPS tracking system and fled with them. “He later replaced the number plates and fixed fake number plates and sold them. Since 2016, around 15 cases were booked against him. Nine cases were booked in 2021 alone. He was assisted by Munna and Sai Madan,” Bhagwat said.
