In the video, Khan also asks T Raja Singh to apologise for his statements about the Prophet, who, he says, is the “hero of the Muslim community”.
In the brazen threat on camera, the Congress leader said: “T Raja Singh wants to do politics of polarisation. Put him in jail. Raja Singh should apologise for his statement. The Prophet is our hero. If he doesn’t apologise, then I would want to ask every Muslim in Hyderabad to beat him wherever you see him. We can take the law into our hands not once, but several times.”
BJP MLA T Raja Singh was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly making objectionable remarks against the Prophet Muhammad. An FIR was lodged against him after massive protests at several locations in Hyderabad on Monday night demanding action against him.
The protests, triggered by a video on social media in which Singh was heard making offensive remarks about Islam and Muslims, spilled on to Tuesday as an angry mob, chanting ‘sar tan se juda (beheading)’ slogans, took to the streets. The protesters said Singh hurt the sentiments of the community and demanded his immediate arrest.
Singh was arrested by the police on Tuesday and a case was lodged over the leader’s video on the Prophet. However, he was soon granted bail, angering the mob further.
Singh was arrested under Sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 295 (injuring or defiling a place of worship with intent to insult the religion) and 505 (public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code.
