Twitter suspends 250 accounts on the request of central government

Recently, micro-blogging site Twitter suspended close to 550 accounts from its platform after the Tractor Rally violence took place on Republic Day in Delhi.

Now the Ministry of Information Broadcasting has directed Twitter to suspend 250 Twitter accounts.

According to sources, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has given instructions to ban 250 tweets and Twitter accounts at present,on which misinformation were posted from these Twitter accounts on January 30 with the hashtag #ModiPlanningFarmerGenocide.Now these accounts have been banned.The request was made by the Ministry of Home Affairs and law enforcement agencies to ban it.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and law enforcement agencies had demanded a ban on these accounts from the Ministry so that law and order did not deteriorate in view of the ongoing farmers’ movement on the borders of Delhi.
Sources said that incitement to the genocide is a serious threat to public order and hence the Ministry of Electronics and IT ordered the blocking of these Twitter accounts and tweets under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. Twitter has blocked these tweet / twitter account.
