Terror attack averted? High alert in Maharashtra’s Raigad after boat with weapons found along coast

A suspected terror boat was found near Harihareshwar shore in Raigad district of Maharashtra on Thursday carrying AK 47 rifles, explosives and bullets.

A suspected terror boat was found near Harihareshwar shore in Raigad district of Maharashtra on Thursday carrying three AK 47 rifles, explosives and bullets.

The state police has issued a high alert in the district. District police is present on the spot.

SP Raigad Mr Ashok Dhudhe confirmed about AK 47 being found in boat near Harihareshwar beach. He did not share any other information about whether the boat was a speed boat or any other boat. The investigation is going on, he added.

Information from sources said that it is an Australian-made boat. Sources added information that people on the boat had not informed coast guards about their entry near Harihareshwar beach.

The place is about 200 km from Mumbai and 170 km from Pune.

Raigad MP Sunil Tatkare, in conversation with AajTak, asked Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) to handle the matter. Local MLA Aditi Tatkare also talked to one of India Today’s reporters and asked the ATS to handle the case.

ATS chief Vineet Agarwal said that they are looking in the matter for a terror angle.

“We are looking at the terror angle also. The boat seems to be registered in Oman,” added the ATS chief.

ATS chief Vineet Agarwal further added, “It appears to be an official boat we are investigating. It can be for the purpose of terrorism also. It may belong to some other country. It is an abandoned boat. We are looking at all possibilities.”

According to police sources, the boat belongs to Neptune Maritime Security Limited,which provides security to vessels. India Today spoke with Neptune P2P group UK office, and the firm is set to release a statement shortly.
