Snowfall brings to a complete halt in Kashmir Srinagar

Jan 05: The normal life has completely paralyzed after the heavy snowfall in many parts of the Kasmir Valley. The accumulation of snow, falling stones, mud slides caused to add public woes in the valley.

According to the details, the Kashmir valley is still in the grip of snowfall; due to this the valley remained shut for the third consecutive day. As well as, more than 250-kms-long Srinagar-Jammu national is still closed owing to the heap of snow, avalanche, falling stones.

The authorities informed that Srinagar-Jammu national highway was shut a day before yesterday due to fresh snow fall in the valley. “There is a fresh snowfall during the past 24 hours and it has been snowing,’’ informed, a traffic police official, adding that, “large boulders began to fall from the hilltop due to rain followed by a shooting stone,’’

The stranded passengers, however, are being provided food & accommodations by residents. The authorities were requested by the passengers that they be allowed to use new Banihal-Qazigund tunnel to reach Kashmir. However, the tunnel is expected to be opened up for the public in coming March.
