Sushil Chandra took charge as the new Election Commissioner Of India.

The new Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission has assumed office amid assembly elections in five states.

Sushil Chandra on Tuesday took over as the 24th Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of the country. Sushil Chandra, former chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has been an IRS officer and has held important positions in several states of the country. In fact, on April 13, Sunil Arora retired as the Chief Election Commissioner, now replaced by Sushil Chandra.


The term of the new Election Commissioner will be till 13th May 2022. Chandra was the chairman of the CBDT before assuming the responsibility of the Election Commission. He will now have assembly elections in Manipur, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and UP. Please tell that the term of the UP Assembly will be completed in the next year i.e. 14th May 2022.
