DRDO permits private sector to develop missile systems.

The Indian Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has opened its doors to the private sector to boost the domestic defense industry.

Under this, private sector firms have been allowed to develop and produce missile systems as well.

DRDO officials told ANI “Under the Development cum Production Partner (DCPP) program, we have allowed the private sector to develop and then produce missile systems.”

The initial program involves the development of ground-to-air missiles.

Private sector companies have taken up this move of DRDO. According to DRDO officials, “Private sector companies have responded enthusiastically to participate in it. A number of bids have been received for the construction of low range ground-to-air missile systems.”

This DRDO effort is part of the Narendra Modi government’s Make in India project to prepare private sector industry to be able to develop complex military systems.
